Gijón is finally linked to the UK and Ireland via ferry

After many years of concerted effort on the part of the Port Authority and the Regional Government sadly accompanied by dashed hopes, Gijón is finally to be linked to the UK and Ireland.
2014.02.19
Starting 5th January 2014, LDLines, which operates the line linking Gijón with Nantes-St Nazaire, is to offer 1 return crossing per week between Gijón and Poole, in southwest England, and 1 return crossing per week between Gijón and Rosslare, in the south of Ireland, via Nantes (without the need to change ship, in the latter case).
Both lines will be multimodal; that is, the ships will transport freight and passengers. These lines are hoped to contribute to boosting both trade and tourism along what is known as the ‘Sea Motorway’ linking up the different countries on the Atlantic Arc.  The Gijón-Poole voyage will take around 25 hours, while that between Gijón and Rosslare will take around 37 hours including a stopover in Nantes.

Online booking will be available from 13th December for the Gijón-Poole line.
